1. Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi there! I’m Christine aka The Sosyal Gal. I am a Filipina influencer based in Los Angeles/San Francisco on a mission to find the best things in Filipino culture, fashion/beauty, fitness & food in the world.I grew up in the Philippines and the East Bay Area, near San Francisco. As an influencer, I value authenticity. My goal is to raise awareness for genuine brands as well as empower other second-generation Filipinos/Filipino-Americans and minorities to go for their dreams — even when it may seem like it is against the stereotype (ie doctor, nurse, engineer etc)
2. What got you interested in beauty and fashion?
My mom! She is the ultimate fashionista (her current hairstyle is a semi-buzz cut platinum blonde with pink streaks). She also taught me how to take care of my skin, nails, hair, and overall wellness.
3. What’s a typical day like in your life?
I work for corporate social media during the work week. At night and on the weekends, I work on creative calendars, concepts, reviews, articles, and networking for Sosyal Gal. I try to squeeze in 2-3 photoshoots every month. I try different types of food every week. As for beauty, I’m very picky with products, so when I do try them, it’s because I’ve done my full research . I don’t have one niche because I like to switch it up; I believe the world has a lot to offer and I want to try ‘em all.
Thesosyalgal a.k.a Christine is an enthusiastic yet humble lifestyle/food influencer and blogger ready to inspire and open the minds of others. She is a storyteller and passionate advocate for Filipino culture being raised between the Philippines and San Francisco. Throughout the years of moving to California she had her own hardships where she had to learn to love herself and her culture. No matter every dark tunnel she went through, she was able to find the light on the other end where she became brighter and stronger. Therefore, Christine shows her love for food, culture, and art undoubtedly through her posts, blog, and Instagram! Her goal is to find the best food in the world and generously share it to her viewers by sharing her adventures and experience.
Her laid back style is perfect for any casual outing, meanwhile when it comes to business she definitely has got it on lock. Including her handle “sosyal” which means “a high class woman” in Filipino. The word usually has negative connotations behind it, but she expresses where it’s meant for Filipino women to “break boundaries and not be a statistic.” Her passion for her culture is extremely riveting and emulating.
Keep up with her on her Instagram @thesosyalgal!
4. What is your morning beauty routine?
Oohhh!! My favorite part of the day. Here’s my tried and true beauty routine:
The minute I wake up, I say thanks to the universe for all that I have.
I immediately go to the bathroom and wipe my face gently with the Body Shop’s Chamomile Cleansing Oil. If needed, I use either La-Roche Posay’s Effaclar Cleanser or Glossier’s Milk Jelly Cleanser.
Right now, I’m using Clarins’ Chamomile Toner so I like to close up my pesky pores with this gentle product.
I just ran out of my Clarins beauty serum, so I’m using a bit of 100% almond oil for serum. I find that it has helped my skin be super supple.
I then apply a mixture of Embryolisse’s moisturizer, Clarins beauty balm, and any non-comedogenic sunscreen that I have on hand.
All ready for makeup! I usually go for the au naturel look, so my makeup during the work week is VERY minimal.
Face: Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte or Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation + Hello Flawless Benefit Powder
Concealer: NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer
Cheeks: Glossier Cloud Paint + Becca highlighter (liquid)
Eyes/Lashes/Brows: A bit of highlighter on eyelids + Glossier Boy Brow + any mascara I have on hand
Lips: Caudalie Lip Moisturizer + A bit of Glossier Cloud Paint
5. What are your must have beauty supplies you take everywhere you go?
Caudalie Lip Moisturizer + Benefit Powder + Glossier Cloud Paint + L’Occitane Lavender Hand Moisturizer
6. What is your best beauty tip?
Drink between 2.5-3 liters of infused water everyday and two-three cups of green tea!
7. What are your favorite fashion brands?
Oohh, this is a difficult question! I have a lot (there’s a lot of love on my end for fashion), but my top five are:
Fashion Nova/Target (guilty pleasures)
8. What are your go-to clothing items?
White t-shirt, high waist jeans, black strappy heels or super cute boots, jean jacket or black bomber/pleather jacket, a fabulous bag, and my favorite pair of hoop earrings
9. What is your next project?
I’m working on a couple of projects, one of which has to do with empowering Filipinos, women, and women of color. Stay tuned & follow me on Instagram (@thesosyalgal) for more!
